Ingrown Nails
Is your nail swollen, red or painful down one or both sides?
It could be ingrown.
Ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis) are a common and often painful condition that can affect people of all ages for a variety of reasons.

They can range from a one-off problem to a long-term recurring issue and, in some cases, may require multiple courses of antibiotics. This happens because the edge or spike of nail breaks the skin, creating a portal of entry for bacteria and other microorganisms, which can lead to infection.
Conservative Treatment
At Southminster Foot Health Clinic, we offer a range of ingrown toenail treatments designed to relieve pain and discomfort helping you get back to walking comfortably and enjoying everyday life again.

We assess the severity of your ingrown toenail and work with you to create a treatment plan that suits your needs, overall health, and the best long-term outcome.

We also look at any underlying causes, such as footwear, nail cutting habits, or toe shape, to help reduce the risk of the problem returning.

For some cases, conservative treatment can be effective without the need for surgery. This usually involves careful nail management and regular follow-up appointments, with treatment intervals tailored to you.
Permanent Nail Removal
For chronic or more advanced ingrown toenails, we may recommend a permanent surgical solution performed here in clinic.
This procedure involves removing the affected section of nail and applying a chemical called phenol to prevent that part of the nail from growing back.
Nail surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic, making the procedure safe and comfortable, with full aftercare and follow-up provided throughout healing.
